Forgiveness - Your Way Towards Peace

Forgiveness is a divine power, something that ordinary humans are not entitled to have. And, those who have this quality are more than 'a human'. One, who is free from materialistic desire and, most importantly, the ego, is blessed with such divine power.

Whether it is of physical or mental strength, weak cannot forgive others. Forgiveness is always an attribute of strong people. It is a trait of a mature person having deep inner control over his mind. This strength cannot be bought, it has to be earned. But, how would you earn that? I think spirituality may be the answer.

There are multiple benefits of forgiveness. It directly influences our thinking process. It sets you free from the negativity building around and boosts positive personality. It saves energy which can be redirected to do productive things. It is also the key to longevity and good health.

But, how will you forgive someone who is not even sorry for their action? How will you respond to evil with kindness and hatred with affection? Is that practically possible?

It's definitely not easy, almost impossible, in modern times. We are self-righteous people and often make it an honour issue. We are driven by anger,  envy and hatred. Love, compassion, and forgiveness come later. I think the fault lies in our lifestyle and effect of our surroundings. But, overcoming all odds, some manage to do so. They are certainly not weak person as they are often described as.

It requires just a sound mind to feel sorry, some guts, to say sorry. But, to forgive someone, who had done something bad to you, you need deep inner strength and a remarkable mental stability.

But, if you keep getting bothered about something that has happened in the past, you can never come out of it. And, holding a grudge inside you doesn't make you strong, but it only makes you bitter. That is why it is said that we should not forgive a person because he is innocent, we should forgive for the sake of our own ‘peace of mind’.

I think everyone is born with this quality but with each passing day, we gain ego and which is why forgiveness starts fading away from our character. If the world is to be looked from a child's perspective, one can forgive others very easily. Children do not learn to forgive. They naturally have this quality, that's why, one day we see a spat between two kids, but the next day, they forgive and forget every bitter memory, and become friends again. Sometimes children teach us some great lessons about life. But, as they grow up, they begin to develop the ego, which makes them, what I described earlier, 'an ordinary human'.

For those who are always in the fighting mode, having a perception that they are invincible, forgiveness can be a powerful weapon against them or may be the only means to deal with them. It irks them to be forgiven so easily. They want you to engage in an argument and show their talent.

When Mahatma said, An eye for an eye can make the world blind, he teaches the importance of forgiveness in our life. To maintain the continuity of human species, someone somewhere has to take a step forward towards forgiveness, and it may sound like losing a battle but it is because of them, we exist!

You know, because of our default human behaviour, how things sometimes get out of our control and, in the middle of an argument, we say rude things to others, sometimes to the person we love the most. In that case, forgiveness becomes inevitable to heal the relationship.

What is forgiveness to you? Have you ever forgiven anyone? If you do, what change(s) did you observe in that person's attitude? You can give your answer below in the comment box.

  1. Many of our hurts are unintentional. Once we understand the actual intention of another forgiveness comes easy

    1. Yeah! But, even those which are intentional, one should forgive them and let go of the past hurts. It is difficult, but they cannot allow it to dictate the rest of their life. There is a lot of other things to do in life than to live in disgust.

  3. You said it right.... We have to forgive for our own piece of mind. It ain't easy at all, especially if it involves not petty hurts but grave abuse. But it is always something that liberates you from hatred and prejudices.

A Voter's tale in Bihar Assembly Election

It was the first time when a young boy Mukesh Pandey from Bihar voted for the 2015 Bihar assembly election. He was very excited to exercise his right to vote so, in the beginning, he decided to listen to every politician and go through the manifesto of the different political parties. After weeks of doing so, he got frustrated and said: "What the hell our politicians are doing! They've no new things to say. Instead of talking how they're going to develop Bihar, they are accusing each other of making Bihar an underdeveloped state. Their campaign is nothing but wastage of public money. Those who invest more will loot more after coming to power. Such campaign can't be possible with hard earned money and is happening with black money. Black people (not racial one) makes black money by different black means like extortion, mafia, kidnapping, etc. So there is no chance of honest people fighting the election. The thing that surprised me most is the behaviour of our (Hon...

MY OPEN LETTER TO RAHUL GANDHI

Dear Mr Rahul Gandhi, First, welcome back from your two months of secret absence. God knows where you have gone to?  Unlike other politicians, your life is full of thrills. Perhaps you have gone for Tapasya and returned with some powers gained by it as told in Hindu mythology. You were unable to lead the 150 years old party but now it seems you can. Hopefully, you will use your powers for the mankind with skill and don't make it poison as your mom told. You speak well especially Hindi language which when your mom speaks appears that she is forced to make speech in Hindi. You can communicate with people better than her. Now you also learnt how to make jibes, it's a good sign of your becoming a contemporary politician because your opponent is the master in these things in front of whom you are still a beginner. Sir, please understand politics is not a part-time profession. You are a dynast so we know you but if you were a normal part-time politician, People and ...

The Brand Amma - Social Work or Self Promotion

J Jayalalithaa, the actress turned Chief minister of Tamil Nadu was given the nickname " Amma " by her followers comparing to or assuming her Amma (Mother). But, she developed this nickname to be the biggest brand in Tamil Nadu, the “Amma brand”. Despite having no market value of this brand, it has a very significant value for the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the poor and the have-nots. For them, she is the goddess who is not only filling their hungry stomach but also providing them almost all basic items necessary for living a decent life (including some luxurious items too). After becoming CM, the major work Jayalalithaa's government has done is providing subsidy and freebies to the people. For instance, subsidized cheap food at canteen, packaged water, pharmacy bill, cement, free rice, free mixer grinder, spectacles, mobiles, laptops, bicycles, etc. all under brand "Amma" and at the price no other shopkeepers, manufacturers or the e-commerce compan...

The Indian Society And The Struggle Of Our Sports Fraternity

India, the world’s second-most populous nation, fails to show its dominance in sports. In fact, India's performance remains terrible except in few games. So, what's holding India back when it comes to competing in world sporting events like the Olympics? First, it's the conservative Indian mindset of the Indian society. You might be aware of the saying in India “ Padhoge likhoge banoge Nawab, kheloge kudoge banoge kharab ” which translates to “You can be a king if you study, can be spoilt if you play games.” Social life of a person who took the plunge of making a career in sports in India can be challenging and demotivating. An Indian parents or teachers, being part of the society, don't consider sports as a career. They have the biggest influence in a child's future ambitions. They may scold the child that “playing a sport will get you nowhere in life, but to make a life you need to be good in academics”. In other words, young Indians are discouraged from playing s...

Legislation In Monsoon

The monsoon session of the Parliament begins today on July 21, 2015. The prime minister Narendra Modi reached out to the opposition parties yesterday and request them to let Parliament function without obstruction. He also ensured them that there will be a debate on all issues of national interest. Either the PM is daydreaming that opposition will allow the Parliament proceedings without any din or just being diplomatic. How can he expect that? The BJP, when in opposition, had rarely let Parliament function smoothly. Senior leaders of BJP said that it is legitimate to disrupt Parliament proceedings by the opposition. And at a time when three ministers of BJP is under the scanner, it is the golden opportunity for the opposition parties. None other than foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj along with Rajasthan CM Vashundhra Raje and her son Lok Sabha MP Dushyant Singh or BJP's Robert Vadra are involved in a serious breach of propriety by helping a fugitive Lalit Modi in a foreign country ...

The Sunshine Within You - Rays of Hope India ranks second worldwide in farm output. Agriculture and allied sectors like forestry and fisheries accounted for 13.7% of the GDP. We have achieved the status of world's largest producer of many fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, major spices, jute, millets and castor oil seed. Also, India is the second largest producer of wheat and rice, the world's major food staples and the world's second or third largest producer of several dry fruits, pulses, eggs, sugarcane and numerous vegetables. It seems that our agriculture sector is booming and we should boast about it. These are statistics as a whole. But when we look our agriculture at an individual level, we find a different story. The condition of Indian farmers are so miserable that they are forced to suicide. The reasons for suicide is not only restricted to crop failure but there are multiple reasons such as habits like drinking and gambling, Family problems with spouse, ...
