Why Religion Should Not Be Downplayed

When you were a child and your parents told you stories about god, you listened to that with great curiosity and excitement, but as you grow older and started seeing everything with the rational eye of science, you realise that it was a lie, and so every religious event and ritual appears to you as an act of stupidity. Still, you keep worshipping the men or women whom you were told to worship as Gods. Why? Have you considered what is the significance of religion?

Religion teaches us that God has created this universe and he is running it in his own way. The Sun, The Moon, Stars, Planets, Living creatures bacteria, viruses, plants, animals, humans are all the creation of God. We are just doing things ordained by him. It may appear that we are influencing things, but the reality is we, ourselves, are influenced by some heavenly forces.

Indians, especially Hindus, are obsessed with rituals and other religious activities like holding fast and going to temple. Some of our rituals are too obsolete and every day they are being replaced by its alternatives. Also, some of our temples are so much hyped that thousands of people visit that temples every day. But, they visit because they've faith and we should not question the faith of an individual, especially when religion is concerned.

Nobody knows the gospel truth of religion. It has always been a grey area for us. After human civilization, development and advancement of Science, our attitude towards religion has been drastically affected. We started looking things by "logic" and raising questions on religious beliefs. There has always been a conflict between religion and science. But both are indispensable as Einstein said: “Religion without science is blind and science without religion is lame”. Remember, it is the science that gave us destructive nuclear weapons that we use for self-destruction.

Religion has multiple benefits in our life. It has a great psychological impact on us. If a human life is full of joy and happiness, it has tragedy and sorrow too. By believing in God, it gives us the strength to face challenging situations and to make a bold decision. It is a 'ray of hope' for a better tomorrow.

There is no physical proof whether God Bhagwan, Allah, Jesus, etc, etc really existed or still exists despite innumerable stories around him. It may be possible that whom we worship today as the god might have been just an ordinary extraordinary human. After all, human worships human is not just a theory.

Humans, by default, have the nature of developing arrogance after getting something that they desire and we are extremely vulnerable to it. By believing in god, we assume that, despite being the dominant species, we are nothing but advanced robots programmed to do tasks of god. In other words, we minimize the chances of developing arrogance. And where arrogance is less, the soul is pure.

There are many reasons to believe in god. The origin of the universe is not known to us despite the advancement in the so-called "Science & Technology". Just like humans provide their children toys to play with, it may be possible that God has provided us with the toy that we call Science & Technology, who knows? But, it's all wild guesses and religious literature is full of it.

Having said all the positive points of religion, it should be mentioned that religion is increasingly becoming a business just for monetary gains. And, that is one of the principal reason why the faith of people deviates from their religion. But, never stop believing in god or following your religion and do it in the way that gives you inner happiness and peace of mind. Rituals are not important but faith is, and that is why it keeps changing.

Comments

  1. Religion & existence of god presumes to have faith in fact blind faith of the devotee and denies a chance to ask questions based on logic & reason. Keeping away from it all therefore, is better option.

  2. We cannot prove or disprove about existence of God. But there are lot of good things happening around it, due to Religious places. If not, where will we all could have a picnic or a get together as a family & relatives.
We will surely miss those moments if there is no Temples or other Religious places.

    1. Slight modification: Religion appreciates us for our good karma (work) while condemn us for our bad karma! And, we say "I LOVE YOU TOO" to God! :)

  4. @Kumara yes, I agree. Sometimes, we took leave from daily work to visit Temple or other religious places. In that way, religion breaks the monotony by providing us some space the opportunity to spend some time with family! :)

Protecting Daughters from Gender Discrimination and Dowry System

What is dowry? Casually, some of us find this as a traditional custom of bribing the groom and their family by bride's parents to get rid of their daughter. Or some of us may consider this as buying of groom by bride's parents through a bidding process. We as a part of Indian society are infamous for dowry and its related offences. When a daughter is born, most of the Indian families don't find that joy a son could have given them. Some of them get depressed after finding out the gender of newborn baby. Having a daughter is a burden to them, mostly, because of the social phenomena like dowry. We make noise and protest against corruption. But we never go through its roots and make substantive changes to uproot it. What is the reason for the corrupt officials to take such risks? The dowry is not the "only" but a good and considerable reason to hoard money through corrupt practices. No media has more reach to our society than Bollywood movies. In the plethora of...

The Indian Society And The Struggle Of Our Sports Fraternity

India, the world’s second-most populous nation, fails to show its dominance in sports. In fact, India's performance remains terrible except in few games. So, what's holding India back when it comes to competing in world sporting events like the Olympics? First, it's the conservative Indian mindset of the Indian society. You might be aware of the saying in India “ Padhoge likhoge banoge Nawab, kheloge kudoge banoge kharab ” which translates to “You can be a king if you study, can be spoilt if you play games.” Social life of a person who took the plunge of making a career in sports in India can be challenging and demotivating. An Indian parents or teachers, being part of the society, don't consider sports as a career. They have the biggest influence in a child's future ambitions. They may scold the child that “playing a sport will get you nowhere in life, but to make a life you need to be good in academics”. In other words, young Indians are discouraged from playing s...

A Voter's tale in Bihar Assembly Election

It was the first time when a young boy Mukesh Pandey from Bihar voted for the 2015 Bihar assembly election. He was very excited to exercise his right to vote so, in the beginning, he decided to listen to every politician and go through the manifesto of the different political parties. After weeks of doing so, he got frustrated and said: "What the hell our politicians are doing! They've no new things to say. Instead of talking how they're going to develop Bihar, they are accusing each other of making Bihar an underdeveloped state. Their campaign is nothing but wastage of public money. Those who invest more will loot more after coming to power. Such campaign can't be possible with hard earned money and is happening with black money. Black people (not racial one) makes black money by different black means like extortion, mafia, kidnapping, etc. So there is no chance of honest people fighting the election. The thing that surprised me most is the behaviour of our (Hon...

J Jayalalithaa, the actress turned Chief minister of Tamil Nadu was given the nickname " Amma " by her followers comparing to or assuming her Amma (Mother). But, she developed this nickname to be the biggest brand in Tamil Nadu, the “Amma brand”. Despite having no market value of this brand, it has a very significant value for the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the poor and the have-nots. For them, she is the goddess who is not only filling their hungry stomach but also providing them almost all basic items necessary for living a decent life (including some luxurious items too). After becoming CM, the major work Jayalalithaa's government has done is providing subsidy and freebies to the people. Indian Olympians In Their Pursuit Of Gold

In the Olympics, Gold medal is something which is glorified and celebrated from its intrinsic value as only the top performers of their relevant sports get to hold it. Every Olympian sees gold in their fantasy while getting trained for a particular sport. In case they miss it, they need to wait for years to reattempt and compete for the top position with the young entrants of the world. That must be exhaustive and tiring task. Four years only sounds small interval. However, only those who are mentally strong can wait, train and compete again. It's certainly not a child's play. Never before has the Indians took  so much interest in sports such as Javelin throw. The cricket loving nation was mapping the distance of Javelin thrown by Neeraj Chopra with great enthusiasm. Because for the nation lacking Olympics gold medal, Neeraj was the last hope of securing it.  23-year-old Neeraj Chopra was born in an agricultural family in Panipat, Haryana. The Javelin thrower, in his childhood...

Forgiveness - Your Way Towards Peace

Forgiveness is a divine power, something that ordinary humans are not entitled to have. And, those who have this quality are more than 'a human'. One, who is free from materialistic desire and, most importantly, the ego, is blessed with such divine power. Whether it is of physical or mental strength, weak cannot forgive others. Forgiveness is always an attribute of strong people. It is a trait of a mature person having deep inner control over his mind. This strength cannot be bought, it has to be earned. But, how would you earn that? I think spirituality may be the answer. There are multiple benefits of forgiveness. It directly influences our thinking process. It sets you free from the negativity building around and boosts positive personality. It saves energy which can be redirected to do productive things. It is also the key to longevity and good health. But, how will you forgive someone who is not even sorry for their action? How will you respond to evil with kindn...
