Virender Sehwag came as a nightmare for any bowlers, regardless of his pace, spin or looks. The madness of the bowler after taking his wicket could be easily seen on the field. It was a kind of mixed reaction of happiness and spewing out the frustration built by Sehwag. But the dignity of this champion, I presume, is not preserved in the way he retired. The BCCI should have given him a match in which his retirement should be officially announced. We can say that he has taken a right decision because a player of such class can't play Ranji and IPL all his life, well nobody can play even international cricket all his life. He as a youngster played and entertained us to the fullest.
Sehwag had represented India in 104 test matches and 251 in ODI with the top score of 319 and 219 respectively. He holds multiple records including the highest score made by an Indian in test cricket, 319 against South Africa, which was also the fastest triple century in the history of International Cricket.
There had been several ups and downs in his career. In January 2007, he was dropped from the ODI team and latter from the test as well but was selected again for both tests and ODIs. By early 2009, he proved himself as one of the best performing batsmen in ODI cricket. But later on in 2012, we can say, he was permanently dropped and substituted with someone by the selectors and Dhoni. Dhoni wanted to take young squads with him. Taking young people into a team has many benefits like they are more loyal than any senior players to a captain. But it doesn't mean that Dhoni had shown Sehwag the doors. It was because of his consistent failure to score a big run at that time in his career but it is unfortunate that he had given any chance after that.
Virender Sehwag had a very peculiar style of playing cricket. When other players become slow at their 40's and 90's and prefer to complete half-century, century with singles, he used to do it with fours and sixes. He used to play aggressive even in test matches having the strike rate inferior only to that of Adam Gilchrist and Shahid Afridi.
Viru may not be the best batsman but he is certainly the best entertainer we ever had.
