Bihar Liquor Ban - Alcoholism and Society

Disclaimer: No alcohol has been used during the writing of this post.
I don't know why I didn't cover this story earlier. Probably because on this topic, I didn't want to write in haste and as sayings go “better late than never”, I came up with this post. And while writing this article, sometimes I felt an alcoholic haze, that is why you should read this carefully!

Let us begin with the definition of 'Alcoholism'. Casually, the process of consuming alcoholic drinks is called alcoholism. But, to be precise, alcoholism is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal addiction to alcohol, and taking it in small quantity very occasionally is not. Simply put, if you can live without alcohol, you are not an alcoholic.

Alcoholic drinks are being promoted movies and sometimes these are depicted as the beverage of high-class society. Probably because of which alcohol has become a status symbol today and it is widely being used in lavish parties. You know, it is hardly possible to see a marriage ceremony without having any alcoholic fun in that.

Alcohol seriously deteriorates an individual's health, though, it cannot be perceived in the beginning. But, when it starts its function, it becomes too late. There is an old saying in India about alcohol "First, you drink alcohol, later it drinks you".

Alcoholics often break psychological barriers and do things that are almost impossible for him to do with a conscious mind. The famous 'naagin dance' is also an outcome of alcohol otherwise which sane minded person would perform such dance move publicly!

But, the extreme effect of alcohol is when a crime is done under its influence. It is sad but interesting fact that a "drunken mind" is the reason behind most of the crimes anywhere in the world. And often, drunkards who committed a crime misunderstand it as a mistake. In many cases, they don't remember what crime he or she has done. So, the chances of improvement, in prison, becomes very little.

It is not that alcoholic drinks were not consumed earlier but they were never served in open public spaces and there were not songs dedicated exclusively to alcohols.

Alcoholism not just affects an individual's life but influences the entire society. Therefore, by banning alcohol, it will help our society to remain in the healthy state which in turn leads to lesser crime rates and a peaceful society.

Bihar has become an absolutely dry state for alcohol addicts. Though being the worst news for alcoholics, overall, this is a good news for most people of Bihar. After all, the land of Buddha and Sita deserves to get rid of this alcohol thing and remain healthy forever.
