MY VIEWS ON INDIAN MARRIAGE

Indian Marriage is one of the most ambiguous things in the world. It is a kind of Rocket Science which older or elder people understand the best. It is of three types namely Love Marriage,
Arranged Marriage and, Arranged-Love Marriage. Some prefer Love Marriage (particularly the youngsters), while some like to have it arranged, with the consensus and support of elder ones in the family. When elders in the family approve the loving couples, then the marriage becomes Arranged-Love Marriage. The elders in the family say that arranged-marriage is more complex and time-consuming as they have to search a suitable Bride or Groom within their caste, matching the (unmatchable)Kundli, verify the character by giving them a character certificate, if "aal is well" then they move on fixing dowry and so on... But the youngsters claim their method more time-consuming as they have to wait for years to fall in love, then date for a while Exchanging Gifts and other things to avoid Break-up and then years again to satisfy their parents so that marriage can happen smoothly.

Getting married not only require the desire but also a substantial amount of capital. The burden of money mainly resides on the bride's side which is the root of many problems. On one hand, we cry on the incidence of female foeticide which is disturbing the sex-ratio while on the other hand, we don't bat an eye when we see dowry deal gets done. Those who have enough money or land manage to give dowry but the have-nots, due to the social pressure, take a loan and fall into the interest trap and have to give compound interests his entire life.

Girls are more emotional and touchy about marriage which is probably the most important event in her life. They do 16 consecutive Monday fasts to get an ideal partner of her choice. They spend months in selecting sarees, Lehnga-choli, Bangles, jewellery items and other things (which I don't have enough knowledge) for Marriage. Their life is influenced by the marriage the most as they have to pack up from their home and shift to a new home which they have no or little knowledge about.

A scenery of a typical Indian marriage:

During the marriage, the Bride and Groom are the real rockstars. Everyone watches them like never before. The attitude of the groom's side is like they are doing a favour to the Bride's side which creates an inferiority complex among the people in the bride's side. They are ready to forgive and forget the hot words of the people on the groom's side. But sometimes the Bride's side becomes aggressive resulting in clashes between them. The guest eats the Khana (the Meals) which is a very important thing in any Indian Marriage. The meals have to be delicious and its the rule ( a foreigner eating that meal will find it too spicy though). Some members especially from the groom's side despite eating too much of that meal passes dirty comments on it which embarrass the bride's Family. “These are the product of alcoholism” is the expression of the bride's side which every member keep repeating, but lastly the marriage happens!

Marriage is a very important stage in a man's or a woman's life. It is more than just an event which should be done smoothly without havocs (mainly by the groom's side). There is a very important position coming afterwards full of responsibility which you cannot bail out.

Why Religion Should Not Be Downplayed

When you were a child and your parents told you stories about god, you listened to that with great curiosity and excitement, but as you grow older and started seeing everything with the rational eye of science, you realise that it was a lie, and so every religious event and ritual appears to you as an act of stupidity. Still, you keep worshipping the men or women whom you were told to worship as Gods. Why? Have you considered what is the significance of religion? Religion teaches us that God has created this universe and he is running it in his own way. The Sun, The Moon, Stars, Planets, Living creatures  — bacteria, viruses, plants, animals, humans are all the creation of God. We are just doing things ordained by him. It may appear that we are influencing things, but the reality is we, ourselves, are influenced by some heavenly forces. Indians, especially Hindus, are obsessed with rituals and other religious activities like holding fast and going to temple. Some of ...

The Magical Castle - Unravelling The Myth

One day, Peter and team decided to give a final try and search the deepest part of the sea. Sadie noticed that there was a large number of aquatic animals moving in and out of a particular place. On further inquiry, she saw a castle, yes it was the magical castle. She felt immense pleasure to see it. She also saw a whale there. She informed Peter about this. Peter and John came there with swords and harpoon, hidden with them. They sent Sadie back to the ship for her safety. As they move forward, Octo uncle saw them and he at once spilled ink as a mark of danger to alert everyone there. Then, came the orca out of the ink to attack them. They moved back in three different directions. The orca chose John and started chasing him. John realised that he can't swim faster than a Whale. So, he aimed the harpoon towards Orca and shot it one after another. This made the orca even more aggressive. John realised that it is his last breath when the aggressive whale was mere 2 ft distance fro...

Bihar Liquor Ban - The Political Perspective

Whether you call it Nitish Kumar's masterstroke for gaining publicity and support of people or a responsible chief minister batting for people's interests, on the face of it, it is great that Bihar is free from alcohol abuse. The Bihar excise (amendment) act, 2016 – a very old 1915 act has been converted into a very stringent law – is haunting the alcohol gang of Bihar. This law banned manufacturing, selling or consumption of liquors (strong or mild) and even prescribes the death penalty for the manufacturer, suppliers and sellers of hooch in case of death as a result of consumption of spurious liquors. Although Biharis can drink outside state boundary, they'll be punished if they create nuisance after returning home. The government had actually proposed to ban only 'desi' liquors. The sale of non-country or ‘Indian Made Foreign Liquor’ (IMFL) was allowed, although, with some caveats. However, within five days, the government extended the ban to IMFL as w...

Bihar Liquor Ban - Alcoholism and Society

Disclaimer : No alcohol has been used during the writing of this post. I don't know why I didn't cover this story earlier. Probably because on this topic, I didn't want to write in haste and as sayings go “better late than never”, I came up with this post. And while writing this article, sometimes I felt an alcoholic haze, that is why you should read this carefully! Let us begin with the definition of 'Alcoholism'. Casually, the process of consuming alcoholic drinks is called alcoholism. But, to be precise, alcoholism is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal addiction to alcohol, and taking it in small quantity very occasionally is not. Simply put, if you can live without alcohol, you are not an alcoholic. “Alcoholism is the effect of excessive intake of alcohol on the functions of the body and personality.” ~ W.C. Reckless “Alcoholism is a condition in which the individual has lost control over his alcohol intake in that he is constantl...

RediGo: The Car for India's Ready to Go Generation

This generation wants to explore and enjoy every moment of life. It is a generation of those who believe in hard work but, at the same time, cannot let it overshadow their enjoyment of life. That's why they are always on the go. This is the ready-to-go generation. And, no wonder, I am also a part of this generation, the generation that is full of fun and life. Despite having a very busy and hectic life, we are those who cannot afford to miss any fun out there. The definition of fun is, obviously, different for everyone. But, in general, as a part of human civilization, we love to hang out and spend quality time with our friends and families. Whether it is by enjoying food in a restaurant or going out for a long drive. Also, we seek freedom from all those things that restrict us to enjoy ourselves. Whether it is social norms or workload, nothing can stop us from doing what we want to do (except that it must be legal). We are the ones who do not let monotony of daily routine to...

The Indian Society And The Struggle Of Our Sports Fraternity

India, the world’s second-most populous nation, fails to show its dominance in sports. In fact, India's performance remains terrible except in few games. So, what's holding India back when it comes to competing in world sporting events like the Olympics? First, it's the conservative Indian mindset of the Indian society. You might be aware of the saying in India “ Padhoge likhoge banoge Nawab, kheloge kudoge banoge kharab ” which translates to “You can be a king if you study, can be spoilt if you play games.” Social life of a person who took the plunge of making a career in sports in India can be challenging and demotivating. An Indian parents or teachers, being part of the society, don't consider sports as a career. They have the biggest influence in a child's future ambitions. They may scold the child that “playing a sport will get you nowhere in life, but to make a life you need to be good in academics”. In other words, young Indians are discouraged from playing s...

Nuclear Friction - Are We Moving Towards Nuclear Doomsday?

It was a moment of joy for the North Koreans when they heard the news that North Korea has successfully tested H-bomb on January 6th and thus “guaranteed the eternal future of the nation”. But it was also a shocking and despairing moment for others. Followed by the claim, came the condemnation from most other countries of the world including US, Japan, South Korea, and even China (supposed friend of N. Korea). But it was not unexpected that the North Koreans will do a further nuke test after the three previous ones in 2006, 2009 and 2013. But nobody on this earth, or even in space, thought that they would be able to do an H-bomb test. It was a second nuclear test only in four years during the rule of Kim Jong Un, the young head of the mafia family that controls North Korea is a sobering reminder of the progress that three generations of Kims have made in expanding their nuclear capability—despite outside efforts to curb it. Few think that North Korea has yet managed t...
